  4.             SUMMARY OF STATE LIVING WILL LEGISLATION

  8. Synopsis: Maine has a strong living will statute. Under the Maine
  9. statute, a living will validly executed under another state's
  10. laws will be recognized by Maine. If a patient has executed a
  11. living will, it is to be made a part of the patient's medical
  12. records. A physician/hospital which does not want to effectuate a
  13. living will must take all reasonable steps to transfer the
  14. patient. To prepare a Maine living will using the state suggested
  15. form, please select living will preparation from the opening
  16. menu. Remember that the publisher recommends preparing a
  17. "uniform" living will in addition to the form suggested with by
  18. the State of Maine. Please also consider executing a living will
  19. for any State that you spend more than a few weeks per year, or
  20. where you are a temporary resident.

  40. addition, a separate writing revoking the same is effective and
  41. the living will can be revoked by physical destruction of the
  42. same.
